TamalFestDC: Ten things to know before you go

By | Published | No Comments

We’re excited to see you all at TamalFest DC today at Bell Multicultural High School. Before you go, here are some important details:

  1. tamalfest-small_animationIf you have friends who didn’t get their tickets online, tell them to come along! We have hundreds of tickets for sale at the door.
  2. We’re expecting a good-size crowd, so if you haven’t purchased tickets online, consider arriving at 1:30 or 2 p.m., after the rush of online ticket holders. Or join us for the second seating at 3 p.m. Either way, everyone is invited to stick around for the music, videos and kids activities.
  3. When you arrive, there will be three lines. If you purchased online, look for the “Online Ticket Holders” line. If you are going to purchase tickets at the door, we will have one line for cash purchases and another for credit card transaction.
  4. There are no physical (hardcopy) tickets to TamalFest this year. If you purchased via Kickstarter or one this website, we will have your name on a list to check you in when you arrive. While it is not required, if you want to be doubly sure, feel free to bring along the email confirmation you received when you backed our project on Kickstarter.
  5. For the price of entrance, you get to taste the cuisine served at each of the tamales tables. There will be more tamales for sale, as well as hot and cold Latin American drinks for sale from El Tamardino and Cocinana and churros from Churreria Madrid.
  6. Come with an appetite! Here’s how the tamal tasting will work: When you arrive, you’ll be given one ticket per tamal table. We’re calling these “tasting tickets.” You turn one tasting ticket per table for a taste of each table’s tamales. Most of the participants will be selling tamales too, so if you are still hungry or would like to take some home you can purchase more.
  7. Consider picking up some tamales to go. There will be take out tamales available. Just inquire at your favorite tamal table!
  8. Pick up some catreing ideas for your holiday party of office fiesta too.
  9. Do some holiday shopping. We’ll have a mini-Latina American Holiday arts and crafts fair, so be sure to check out the artist area.
  10. There will be live music, videos, a video booth, and bilingual story time and a tamal inspired children’s activity at this year’s TamalFest, so bring along the kids. Children five-years-old and younger get in for free!
