Book party this Friday celebrating new novel by Alberto Roblest

Alberto Roblest’s recently translated novel, “A Necklace of Ears,” was first published in Spanish a few years ago, but the themes that run through this fantastical thriller seem even more urgently relevant today—the immigrant experience, harsh working conditions, the legacy of cartel violence and abuse of power. Magical realism and eroticism may drive the plot, but it unfolds against a deeply real backdrop.
This Friday the Cambridge Center for Adult Education in Harvard Square is hosting a bilingual book presentation and reading with Alberto, who is also Hola Cultura’s cofounder and president.
Alberto will discuss the book and answer questions. Actor Oscar Villeda Estrada will read from the original novel, “Collar de Orejas,” as well as the new English translation by Dillon Scalzo published last year by Arte Público Press.

Presentación de la nueva novela de Alberto Roblest en Cambridge
La novela de Alberto Roblest, “A Necklace of Ears” originalmente escrita en español y recién traducida al inglés. Si bien se trata de un thriller fantástico con elementos de realismo mágico, erotismo y novela negra urbana, los temas que aborda parecen aún más relevantes hoy en día: la experiencia del inmigrante, las duras condiciones laborales, el legado de la violencia de los cárteles y el abuso de poder.
Este viernes, el Centro de Educación para Adultos de Cambridge, en Harvard Square, acogerá una presentación y lectura bilingüe del libro con Alberto, quien también es presidente y cofundador de Hola Cultura.
