Now that we’ve reached our goal to cover the festival’s basic expenses, every dollar we receive will go into our online coverage of the TamalFest and to keep Hola Cultura operating in 2017. Earlier this fall, as we were hard at work to make TamalFest DC happen again this year, Hola Cultura found out that we had lost a key source of our funding. We have a big hole in our budget for 2017. We are resilient and have lost no time looking for new ways forward. But 2017 is going to be a difficult year for Hola Cultura. We are going to have to cut back on our programming, returning to our roots as an online publication, while we find ways to replace the lost funding and continue.
So your support of Hola Cultura is crucial! Please purchase your tickets online. Already have? Then please tell all your friends, family and tamal lovers. If you can afford to kick in a little more cash, every dollar will go into keeping Hola Cultura operating in the difficult few months ahead. We will use the funds to edit the ‘Tamal Stories’ we record from everyone who visits the TamalFest’s Video Booth. With your support, we will continue mentoring and editing the work of our terrific team of young writers, photographers and videomakers who help us keep this website updated with the interviews, reviews and stories of Washington’s vibrant Latino arts and culture. In these uncertain times, don’t you agree that D.C. needs an online site that counters negative stereotypes by showcasing the many vital contributions of Latino culture?
If you agree that knowledge is power—that understanding one’s culture and taking pride in one’s heritage can powerfully assist individuals to reach their aspirations and the entire community to thrive, please support us now by backing or increasing your support of our Kickstarter campaign. If you’d rather give a tax-deductible contribution via our PayPal account, please click here.
Onward to TamalFest DC! We can’t wait to see you, so we are getting this party started early with more about the chefs that make this part fiesta-part cultural exchange possible. Today, we present Maria Villalta, owner and chef of the local Pica Taco chain, Drew Davis, the Union Kitchen chef behind Tamales Pachuca, and the Compres twins of “Los Hermanos” restaurant. Come back here later to watch interviews with them and read all the interviews on our sister site: https://holaculturamas.wordpress.com
Please purchase your tickets online before Friday at noon and become a backer of TamalFest DC.
See you Sunday!
