Meanwhile, we’d like to introduce you to the chefs and community cooks of TamalFest DC and tell you a little about what’s one the menu. Today we begin a new online Special Issue of Hola Cultura. All week, we will publish interviews, articles and more about TamalFest and the traditions involved in making the tamales.

tamarindo_exteriorWe’re getting things started with an interview with the manager of DC’s Longest standing Salvadoran restaurant. Read our story and watch our interview with Ana Reyes of El Tamarindo.

image-3Meet Miriam Perlacio, a People’s Choice Award winner at last year’s TamalFest, who has returned to defend her title and promote her Little Bites catering business.

She will reprise her Peruvian tamal recipe with led her team to victory last year while competing in the team fielded by Carlos Rosario Culinary Arts Academy.
