It was a big weekend for that tasty Salvadoran staple: the pupusa. Dozens of local restaurants that make the chicharron-, bean- and cheese-filled delicias wooed crowds at the World Montgomery Festival Sunday. Sure there was plenty of Chinese, Ethiopian and Indian food available at the fourth annual celebration of county diversity. Yet the pupusas really stole the show, according to articles in both the Washington Post and El Tiempo Latino.
“The pupusa has become world-famous,” Jesus Alberto Contreras of El Boqueron II, told the Post’s Luz Lazo.
But it was the fare from Silver Spring’s La Frontera Restaurant that wowed festival goers the most to take home the best pupusa prize in yesterday’s contest.
