With immigration so much in the news, today we bring you Hola Cultura’s podcast “Undocu-Life, No Longer Dreaming.” First aired two years ago this month, these real-life stories are as powerful and true today as ever.
Based on an oral history project, later turned into an 8-episode podcast, “Undoc-Life” shares the stories of five young adults who immigrated to the Washington area as children. Brenda, Carla, Gerson, Jacinto and María take us back to their earliest recollections, childhood migration and the truths and traumas of finding their footing in a new country. While politicians can debate immigration policy, each episode brings you inside the lives and hearts of these brave young Washingtonians, who are, after all, people not policies or statistics.
Immigrants are real people with real stories, to paraphrase “Undocu-Life” cohost Jose Luis Mendoza, one of the wonderful and passionate crew of SPEL interns and fellows who made these episodes possible.
