In Week 2 of our Special Issue on Latino history, Gisell Ramirez and Yanci Flores produced a timeline of events in Latin American and the Caribbean between the 1950s and 1980s that brought Latin Americans in increasingly large numbers to the Washington-area.

Read what local residents told us about what the District was like in the 1980s, when D.C.’s Latino population was growing and the arrival of large numbers of Central American refugees, particularly Salvadorans, transformed the city’s Latino community.
