Hola Cultura begins selecting artists for dialogue series

By | Published | No Comments

We’ve had an eventful fall so far at Hola Cultura! In addition to kicking off the SPEL semester and receiving local coverage for our mural-saving efforts, we are now entering the next phase of our new Latine arts dialogue series, ArteVoces.

Thank you to all the artists who applied. We are thrilled by the interest from this talented and diverse group of artists. This engagement underscores the growing need for spaces that highlight D.C.-area Latine creatives.

To honor these applications and give them the evaluation they deserve, the selection committee at Hola Cultura will spend the rest of the month reviewing the artists’ materials. We look forward to announcing the selected artists in early November.

I am also excited to announce I will be the new project director for ArteVoces, succeeding independent curator Fabiola R. Delgado. We’d like to thank Fabiola and Ashley Mayor, a curator at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History, for getting this project started. I look forward to applying my skills as Hola Cultura’s assistant editor to carry out this impactful endeavor.

ArteVoces, formerly known as Future Forebears, will spotlight Latine artists from the D.C. area through a series of dialogues. These conversations will feature artists at different career stages to foster insightful discussions about establishing an arts career and building community in the Washington region. With support from Humanities DC, these dialogues will be recorded and presented at a public event next spring and published in a limited edition zine.
