We interviewed Andrew Gonzalez of Lezo’s Taqueria, a Mount Pleasant restaurant that began thanks to the cooking talents of Andrew’s mom Doña Rosa. The family started their business from their D.C. apartment, specializing in her family recipes from Oaxaca. If Mexico is a country of “foodies,” Oaxaca has been an epicenter of great Mexican cooking going back centuries – if not longer.
After operating out of the family apartment for more than a decade, the business grew enough that they opened their own taqueria on Mount Plesant Street NW in 2015.
In this interview, Andrew talks about the recipe, his family’s process of tamal-making and expanding their business.
