Bloombars screens “Belo Monte: An Announcement of War” (Belo Monte: Anúncio de uma Guerra), the 2012 feature-leangth documentary about the fight to stop a huge hydroelectric dam Brazil is intent on building in the heart of the Amazon rainforest, an idea environmentalists and the Indigenous people who live along the Xingu River Basin consider “a terrible catastrophe with global consequences.” On hand for a Q & A after Tuesday night’s screening will be the filmmaker André D’Elia and a representative from Amazon Watch, which has allied with environmentalists and indigenous activists to fight dam construction. (In Portuguese w/ English subtitles).
