~~A special invitation to our work-in-progress presentation on July 24 ~~
Every Monday and Friday, you can find interviews and more with D.C. Latino artists, writers, chefs, and creative leaders. On Thursday, we post “Latino Links” going-out picks to help you keep up with the incredible number of Latino events unfolding here daily. But summers are special at Hola Cultura because our expanded internship program allows us to dive deeper into topics of community interest and tell more of the stories that make Washington, D.C., such a unique place to live.
Last Saturday, for instance, we were there as a group of local Guatemalan artists created una alfombra de aserrín (a sawdust carpet) at the Smithsonian’s Folklife Festival on the National Mall. It was amazing to see this traditional form of temporal art take shape over the span of several hours.
In two weeks, on Mon., July 24, we’ll debut this summer’s work-in-progress—including a new video about the making of the sawdust carpet. It’s a free event and open to everyone.
Get a sneak peek at our unpublished interviews with some of D.C.’s first street muralists and other original stuff you won’t find anywhere but on this website.
