Ivan Mendizabal: Self Portrait

Ivan Mendizabal is a photographer, poet, traveler, cyclist, language interpreter. Both an observer and a participant. Capturing, contemplating, contrasting; he finds as much to catch his attention in his Adams Morgan neighborhood as in a Gothic Cathedral in Barcelona or a Tanzanian village; in the delicacy of a flower or at a street demonstration; in the minute and the monumental. Ivan first came to Los Angeles from Guatemala City, and has made the DC area his home since the late seventies. He has traveled to Europe, Africa, Asia and of course Latin America, where he has celebrated and documented the faces and phases; the landscapes and lampposts; dances and danger.
