Some days the city’s newspaper of record has nary a news brief that mentions the Latino community when other days stories are sprinkled throughout the paper. While not exactly a downpour (so to speak), today, you could say, we’re experiencing a light smattering of news Hola Cultura readers could use:
The Washington Post has a front-page article declaring “region among leaders in trend toward a greater racial, ethnic mix,” while the Metro section reports on a group of high school students who are pressing DC Public Schools to expand services geared toward helping immigrant students learn English so that they can achieve more at school.
The paper’s Weekend section, meanwhile, features “Tacopocalypse!” on the region’s rapidly proliferating taco emporiums. Despite Post’s rather unfortunate choice of headline, we at Hola Cultura think this can only be a good thing!
While you are here, please also check out the Leer DC page to read the new reseña on the novel “Tan Cerca de la Vida” by Santiago Roncagliolo (Alfaguara, 2010). It’s the second in our exclusive series reviewing Spanish language books you can take out of the D.C. Public Library.
By the way, the annual Adams Morgan Day Festival is Sunday.
Enjoy the weekend! Catch you next week!
