Iniciemos el año nuevo con un espíritu de esperanza y buenos ánimos a pesar de las circunstancias y la pandemia. Este año HOLA CULTURA cumple once años de existencia. A esa edad se celebra con globos, gorritos, payasos y muchos amigos comiendo un gran pastel de tres pisos. Fotografías, juegos, felicidad para todos. Sin embargo, dado los últimos acontecimientos; la pandemia, la cuarentena, el distanciamiento social y la perdida de nuestros seres queridos, solamente les decimos que ha sido un placer trabajar con y para la comunidad todos estos años; con los jóvenes del área metropolitana, con los artistas y otros hacedores de cultura, con nuestros vecinos y amigos. Y durante esta pandemia, con los especialistas en el área de salud que nos han dado sus consejos y compartido su conocimiento.
La labor que realizamos no sería posible sin el apoyo de algunas agencias del gobierno de la ciudad, de National Endowment for the Humanities, y algunas fundaciones privadas y públicas, pero también sin el apoyo de nuestros amigos, compañeros, interns y voluntarios. Y por supuesto con el apoyo moral de nuestros vecinos y conciudadanos. Mantengamos la frente en alto con el fuerte espíritu de solidaridad que se necesita para los tiempos difíciles.

This year HOLA CULTURA begins its second decade—a birthday typically celebrated with balloons, hats, clowns, and a multitude of rambunctious friends enjoying large quantities of three-layer cake. Photographs, games, happiness everywhere. However, given the latest developments—the pandemic, masking, social distancing, and the loss of our loved ones—we might have to skip the party but can still use our words to celebrate this important milestone in the life of the organization.
For the past decade it has been a pleasure to work with and for the community, with Washington youth, artists and other culture makers, neighbors and friends, as well as with health care specialists, who have given us their advice and knowledge to help us all get through the pandemic.
The work we do would not be possible without support of the D.C. government, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and other private foundations and public agencies. Also indispensable is the support of our friends, colleagues, interns, and volunteers—as well as the moral support of our neighbors and fellow citizens.
Readers, thank you for sticking with us over this passed decade. Onward together as 2022 begins, bringing with it all our hopes and aspirations.
