Al Malpaso darle prisa- danza / Malpaso, hurry up – dance

En el marco de Artes de Cuba:from the island to the world, el sábado pasado (12/05) asistimos al Kennedy Center a un espectáculo dancístico ofrecido por la compañía Malpaso que nos deleitó con tres coreografías: Vals indomable, Ocaso y 24 horas y un Perro, tres piezas cuyo eje narrativo fue el de las relaciones de pareja, pero a la vez las relaciones entre los seres humanos en general, por supuesto la que se entablan entre los amigos.
Cuerpos ondulantes, seres flexibles que dan giros, saltan y se dan la mano para ayudarse a volar por los aires.
Malpaso presentó un excelente espectáculo en el que vimos el poder del cuerpo y la capacidad de la imaginación para decirnos sin palabras que los seres humanos estamos unidos en algún punto, en algún lugar, con alguna otra persona en el mundo; y qué es importante tener a ese alguien que nos de la mano, que nos ofrezca el pie, que nos apoye y nos permita volar por los aires y caer seguro en el piso con las dos piernas bien puestas para no caernos.
Con nueve bailarines en escena, este espectáculo dejó bastante satisfechos a los asistentes que con un lleno total del Eisenhower Theater, disfrutaron de estos cuadros dancísticos en el que los ejecutantes se repartieron el trabajo de explicarnos con manos, pies y movimiento, que somos más flexibles que el agua, y que si bien es cierto el viento se lleva las palabras; las acciones y los sentimientos perduran, y es con eso con los que contamos para expresarle al otro nuestro amor.
Ahora los bailarines se detienen, ponen sus oídos cada uno en el corazón de su pareja y lo escuchan latir y latir, y ese latido nos contagia y nos explica que el corazón es un órgano qué expresa con sus pulsaciones el sentimiento que nos aqueja, para que el otro descifre lo que hay en él, cuando las palabras salen sobrando.
Malpaso es una compañía fundada en 2012 y se ha establecido hasta alcanzar un perfil internacional. Como dice un viejo dicho: al mal paso darle prisa y al final de la jornada, un gran aplauso por el trabajo realizado, después de muy buenos pasos, giros en el aire y sonrisas de los espectadores.
Artes de Cuba es un festival que incluye además de danza, música, baile popular, teatro, moda, filme y arte plástico, mismo este último que puede verse en el primer piso y en la terraza. Habría que hacer mención que este festival es único en el sentido en que es la primera vez que tenemos la oportunidad de disfrutar de tal cantidad de talento artístico de nuestros hermanos de la isla del caribe. Last Saturday we attended a dance performance by the Malpaso Dance Company at the Kennedy Center, part of the Artes de Cuba festival continuing through May 20. “Malpaso” translates roughly into “misstep” in English, though his accomplished and athletic dance company based in New York City is very surefooted, indeed! Dancers performed three pieces about romantic relationships, as well as the relations between human beings in general, including between the friends.
Undulating bodies, flexible beings that twist, jump and shake hands to help you fly through the air.
These skilled dancers, choreographed by artistic director Osnel Delgado, highlighted the power and agility of the human body, as well as the capacity of the imagination. They illustrated, without need of words, how all human beings are connected—united in some way, at some point, somewhere, one way or another—with everyone else in the world. The importance of human contact—having someone to hold on to, offering each other support that allows us to fly through the air (if only in our imaginations) and fall safely on the floor with both legs well placed to avoid injury.
With nine dancers on stage at the Kennedy Center’s Eisenhower Theater May 12 uplifted the full house of the Eisenhower Theater, leaving audience members clamoring for an oncore. Dances like paintings, in which the performers communicated with movements more flexible that the water exuding love and connectedness.
At one point, the dancers stopped to put their ears up to the heart of their partners, hearing the beat-beat of the other; heartbeats that mark our existence. The heart is an organ that expresses with its pulsations the feelings that afflict us. With an ear to a heart; the listener hears it rumble and deciphers its message without the need of words.
The Malpaso Dance Company, founded in 2012, has established itself and built an international profile. Malpaso performed at the Kennedy Center with very “good steps,” turns in the air to the delight of the audience.
The Artes de Cuba continues through this coming Sunday, May 20, with an array of dance, music, theater, fashion, film and fine arts. Many events are free and the art installations on the first floor and terrace level are free and open to the public.
